[Where can you go for a really good bagel, and how do you like yours?]
I buy jumbo-packs of bagels and bulk packs of cream cheese singles and I keep them in the refrigerator. I also keep jumbo-packs of English muffins. I can't really function and don't leave the house until I've had a bagel and a cup of Deadman's Reach coffee. Rarely do I hit up bakeries or coffee shops in the morning. The Moose Is Loose is a great bakery, though.

[What is your favorite style of doughnut?]
Old-fashioned glazed, I also love the raspberry filled ones.

[What’s your favorite flavor of Lifesavers?]
I don't really know. I'm not big on candy. I haven't eaten a Lifesaver in probably ten years or more.

[What O-shaped breakfast cereals do you like?]
Multigrain Cheerios. I usually eat granola, Grape Nuts, or Honey Bunches of Oats. Some times I get a wild hair up my ass and I make oatmeal.

[How do you feel about onion rings, and where can you get some good ones?]
I absolutely love onion rings and I make the best. In the past I've worked as a kitchen manager/line cook for years. I love to use the big Walla Walla sweets with a thick batter of tempura and usually Miller High Life or Coors. In a commercial deep fat fryer I prefer to fry them a little hot at 375 degrees fahrenheit. In a house-hold counter-top fryer I usually go for a cooler fry at 325 to 350. It takes about a minute and a half and they're good to go. Give them a spin in a large metal mixing bowl with a few generous shakes of seasoning salt and you're good to go.

I'm not so good with reviews... but here goes nothing.

So, the other night I saw The Hangover. Its gotten some amazing reviews, so I thought what the heck, right?

It was hilarious. I think I'm still dead from all the laughing I did.

Just when you stop laughing from one thing, something else amazingly random happens to them, and you laugh again.

Its going to be added to my DVD collection when it comes out.

Its definitely a must see. Do it. I know you want to.

How do you feel about fireworks displays? I like them; they're pretty. I haven't actually watched them in a long time though.

What were the details surrounding one of your mishaps with fire? Um, one time I almost burnt down my friend Chad's house. It was funny. He dared me to coat my hand in rubbing alcohol and light it on fire. So, I did. What I didn't think about was the excess alcohol that dripped into the sink. So, when I tried to shake my hand to put the fire out, it lit the sink on fire.

Who in your life could be described as a real firecracker? April. She's quite the handful.

When did you last feel you were being put on display? Um...I always feel like people are watching me, and not in a good way.

How confident are you in your barbecue skills? I'm pretty handy with cooking things :)

Where do you get most of your information about current local events? Um... either Daniel, the husband, or April, the BFFL.

Where do you get most of your information about current national and international events? Um... Either one of those two people again, or the trending topics on Twitter... oh! If its really important, people's facebook statuses.

Who in your family always is most likely to know what’s up with everyone else in your family? My mother. She's always in everyone's business.

Who at work (or school) always seems to know what’s going on? I don't work or go to school...

What other kinds of news do you try to keep up-to-date on and where do you get it? I don't keep up with news. I used to, and miss it... I should get back into it again.

Current Snaps: Deftones- Change (In The House Of Flies)
[Where do you get most of your information about current local events?]
For the local events I read the local newspapers(Peninsula Clarion, Anchorage Daily News, and the Homer Tribune).

[Where do you get most of your information about current national and international events?]
For national events I pick and choose between online news sites. I don't pay much attention to the majority of national current events as I have no interest whatsoever in the goings on of the denizens of Hollywierd. For international news I use the BBC home site and a Deutches(German) news site.

[Who in your family always is most likely to know what’s up with everyone else in your family?]
My family is HUGE. I have around two hundred first cousins. My father's mother and father had seventeen children. Of the sixteen surviving children all have had multiple children. It's really hard to say who knows everything that is going on. With the advent of the majority of the family joining sites like Facebook and Myspace news generally travels fast.

[Who at work (or school) always seems to know what’s going on?]
Currently I work on a concrete crew, there isn't much time for banter. When the day is done we sometimes bullshit over cold beers. Not alot of conversation about news, though.

[What other kinds of news do you try to keep up-to-date on and where do you get it?]
Science news and wierd news. I use Slashdot.org and a few other sites.

What are your feelings about milk?
I don't particularly enjoy the white water that they try to pass off as milk. But I drink the shit. Get me a carton of Alpenmilch and I'm happy.

What are your feelings about cheese?
I have yet to eat a cheese that I did not like. It is a necessary ingredient in many foods and my wife and I go through about five pounds of cheese in an average week without any negative digestive ramifications.

What are your feelings about yogurt?
I love Piña colada and blueberry yogurt but it has to have the fruit bits in it. I also like to put granola in plain yogurt.

How do you feel about soy milk?
That's not milk. It's soy slime. I have tried it and it's disgusting.

How far are you from the nearest cow?
Roughly twelve miles.

What are your feelings about milk? I love milk. Sometimes I get really bad cravings for it, and drink nothing but milk for a whole day. My stomach doesn't always like me afterward, but meh.

What are your feelings about cheese? I <3 cheese. Its one of my favorite foods!

What are your feelings about yogurt? I am not a big fan. Like twice a year I'll eat it, but that's all.

How do you feel about soy milk? Its alright. The chocolate kind is too chocolately for my taste, but if you mix the chocolate and vanilla together, its good.

How far are you from the nearest cow? Maybe like five miles? When I lived in Pa, we were like a five minute walk from cows.

Food and Drink

What’s something you will not eat unless you also have ketchup?
Hmm... I don't know really I've kinda gotten away from using it all the time. I still like it, but sometimes I just like the natural flavor of things better.

What’s something you will not drink unless it is served on ice cubes? anything that's supposed to be cold and isn't. LoL I don't know.

What’s something you will not eat unless it is served between slices of bread?
lunch meat?

What’s something you will not drink unless you have a straw?
Malts or milkshakes

What’s something else you will not eat except under very specific circumstances?
I'm gonna have to go with everybody else on this one and say hotdogs. I don't much like them to begin with and the only way I'll eat them is if they are beef ballparks or a name brand.

What’s something you will not eat unless you also have ketchup?

Nothing really, I'm not a big ketchup fan. I like lots of other condiments waaay more than I like ketchup. However, if I eat ketchup, it must be Heinz.

What’s something you will not drink unless it is served on ice cubes?

Iced Coffee... well, coffee in general, since I do not like hot coffee. I like all my beverages cold, but they don't necessarily need ice cubes. Oh, Tap water needs cubes in it as well.

What’s something you will not eat unless it is served between slices of bread?

Nothing. I generally do not like bread that much.

What’s something you will not drink unless you have a straw?

Iced Coffee, slushies, milkshakes... things like that.

What’s something else you will not eat except under very specific circumstances?

Too many to list. I swear, I'm one of the world's pickiest eaters.

[Food and Drink]

[What’s something you will not eat unless you also have ketchup?]
There isn't a food I wont eat without ketchup. However, I appreciate ketchup on my cheeseburgers, on regular frankfurters, on hash browns, and on fries. Ketchup is a great source of lycopene.

[What’s something you will not drink unless it is served on ice cubes?]
Any soda except for root beer. I also prefer bourbon, scotch, cognac, and rye on ice. However I have been known to shoot them straight from chilled shot glasses. Gin and tonic, Zombie, aaannnd last but most certainly not least, Grapefruit juice.

[What’s something you will not eat unless it is served between slices of bread?]
Leberwurst, bree, shredded barbecue beef, braunschweiger, the contents of a Ruben sandwich which requires, of course, rye bread.

[What’s something you will not drink unless you have a straw?]
ICE-SUCKEEEEEEE!!!! A.K.A Slurpy, freezy, fridge-head, icey.

[What’s something else you will not eat except under very specific circumstances?]
Raw oysters, they make me really unbelievably horny. Habaneros, they must be cured and cooked properly and in proper quantities. Gazpacho, it must be prepared properly. Hummus, it's f*cking hummus for the sake of all that is good and right in this world, I'd better be full of expensive vintage wine and hungry to begin with. Sashimi, I prefer it in sushi rolls and I am very particular about where I go to eat it and how I like it prepared.

Now on to the poem of the week.

Northern Fulmar (Fulmarus glacialis)

In the wind the fulmars come and go,
heeling where the northerly blows down sharp.
The fulmars hurtle crosswind,
to and fro by hundreds
until the woven heavens
have been warped
close to this planet, nimbus gathered low, pursed
heavy in that seine
knotted by the birds and reefed,
mesh sewn on mesh, each flight a twine
threaded through bar and row,
seized into gores
where the fulmars feather deft.

In the wind the fulmars never slow.
They crisscross waves,
skimming low in the trough, close
to the face of each sea. The blows struck by gusts
loft wings over rollers driven rough
and the fulmars cast across grounds
trod by seal and crab,
seined by flounder and whale.

In the wind the fulmars wheel to blood
unpacked like skeins of roe.
Flurries of snow filter light falling dusky
as fulmars flurry and reel on the breeze,
a cloud alive of hooked beak, stiff wing,
and woe to the dying
afloat aloud
on the loud sea
then tumbled under all that flows.

~Peter Munro~
